I haven't written in a while! Reading other people's blogs has inspired me. I feel like I have a lot of catching up to do.
Last fall my sister-in-law, Camille, finished her first marathon. We went to cheer her on at the finish line. It was a moving experience for me. I realized that if she could do a marathon, surely I could too! All I need to do is figure out how to run for four or five hours and I've got it!
So I signed up for the St. George marathon. I'm not a runner, so this is my first go at the sport. Earlier this year I challenged myself to run just one mile, and I was embarrassed that I couldn't do it. But after trying again and again, I could run three miles without much trouble in a matter of a few weeks.
Hence the goal to run a marathon! There's 18 weeks to go before the big event on October 6. My official training started today with a 3 mile run around the neighborhood. I'm following Hal Higdon's marathon training program.
I also read Hal Higdon's book about marathon training recently. Great book. Now I know a little bit more about what I'm getting in to!
