I'm Dan Purcell. I love to program and dream up new startup ideas.
I have a B.S. in Computer Science from BYU-Idaho. Shortly after graduating, I got an awesome job working for a young computer security company that later got acquired by Intel. In my spare time, or more so as a hobby, I started a few small businesses. These adventures lead me to starting and managing a number of successful businesses. The most prominent business so far is Velocity Webworks (a web and mobile app development agency), where we serviced 800 clients worldwide and employing many dozens of individuals in Southern Utah. Velocity was acquired by iGlobal Stores in October 2015 and am a partner there, leading a team of developers (and loving it).
My passions are in management teams of software developers, leadership, web application development, Linux, system administration, online marketing, customer service, and leadership.
I love reading business-related books (or more accurately, listening to them). I go through one or two a month. I love to run, having completed two marathons. I'm involved in service through my church and coaching my kids' sports and Lego League teams. I occasionally get to adjunct teach at our local university on topics related to advanced web development.
Most importantly, I'm married to my sweetheart, Emily, and have five wonderful children. Being a husband and a father is one of the most rewarding things about my life. I'm a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (aka Mormons).
The reason why I started this blog is the hope that something I've learned along the way might be a benefit to someone else. Perhaps I can be a positive influence for good on the world through the words I write here.
Feel free to connect with me on Google+ and LinkedIn.
A little while ago I write a silly parody to What Makes You Beautiful by One Direction as an intro to a business networking group. Here it is:
